There are 4 key fragrance notes — Fresh, Floral, Oriental & Woody. 

Fresh

As the name suggests, fresh fragrances usually smell.. fresh :P To be specific they are usually more refreshing, zesty and citrusy. Think fruits like lemon, lime or even mandarin orange. Some fresh fragrances also contain herbs and leafy scents to boost the crispness it provides.

Floral

One of the more popular scents amongst many is the floral fragrance. Almost any flower's scent falls into this category including jasmine, geranium and honeysuckle. Floral scents be anything from a light to intense scent depending on the flower used.

Oriental

Oriental fragrances tend to be more warm and sweet. They feel very rich and luxurious, often coming in stronger notes like vanilla, cinnamon and musk.
